Design

There is no set formula for the creation of a Building. Most are prototypical and are created to meet a unique set of criteria. In order to provide successful solutions, a number of alternatives need to be explored, usually in challenging timescales. In order to sustain this process we are passionate about our work and achieve immense satisfaction through its successful completion.

Cumming Anderton Architects recognise the potential of Building Information Modelling (BIM) to optimise the delivery of our design services, improving outcomes and realising value for money for our clients.

Cumming Anderton Architects adopted Revit in 2015 and have since completed several projects ranging from single family dwellings to large manufacturing facilities. Where appropriate, projects comply with BIM level 2 and are procured using PAS 1192-2:2013. Additionally, where we are retained to undertake the role of Information Manager, we review the Employer’s Requirements for BIM to determine the Level of Detail (LOD) required and prepare a pre contract BIM Execution Plan. As part of this, we also assess the Employers Asset Management requirements to ensure compliance with the Employer’s Information Requirements and with UK Government Strategy Deliverables such as COBie UK 2012 v.2.4 where applicable.

Training in BIM procedures and day to day support is provided by our in-house BIM Manager, who also organises workshops on procedures, skills and particular topics. It is a prerequisite that all staff members are proficient in Revit.

We collaborate with consultants who have adopted BIM standards which are industry best practice such as PAS 1192-2:2013, BS1192:2007, BS 8541 Parts 1-4. Even in cases where BIM Level 2 is not an employer requirement, as good practice we work to PAS 1192-2:2013 and related standards to ensure standardisation within our practice.

Cumming Anderton Architects investment in technology is significant and we use a variety of tools for conducting analysis, simulation and communication of project information, including:

  • Revit for primary authoring tool.

  • Navisworks Manage for design collaboration and clash renditions.

  • NBS Specification information for cross-referencing with objects in models.

  • Revit Server/Autodesk Build for collaborating between consultants.
